Fall Is For Swingers

Cool evenings and warm days. Fall is on the way. While this is great sleeping weather for us, it can cause some specific plant problems. Soon you will be seeing......

powdery mildew on shrubs.  This white, dusty fungus looks strange but causes little damage.  In fact, this fungus often only attacks leaves of deciduous plants before they drop. You may also see this on lawns in areas of dry soil. The best fix is a little extra water. Powdery mildew hates water droplets; it loves dew and condensation which the warm days and cool nights give us. The other major problem in landscapes may be you. Cool weather at night doesn't mean 'stop watering'. Be sure to maintain your normal watering schedule through at least mid-October. Thanks,  Steve
