Heat Wave Watering Advice

Wow--it's hot. Landscapes are roasting in the sun and so am I.

Now is the time to be generous with the water. Don't try to conserve water today. Our normally cool, moist climate allows the plants in our landscapes to become tender and acclimated to moderate temperatures. When the temperature rises over 90 degrees, plants suffer and will show damage. If you see any wilting or brown foliage, be sure to water more. When we get weather over 100 degrees, you should double your watering due to tremendous plant water uptake. Lawns and shrubs should receive 1/2 inch of water every other day. Also, be sure to water between midnight and 5 AM to avoid evaporation.

This photo shows a lawn beginning to go into drought-stress from the heat. Running a soaker hose on it will help to bring it back.
