This week, my friends at Diedem allowed me to see some pretty special rooftops with established plantings. The first was was a ten-acre roof atop a new water treatment plant - the roof was planted one year ago. The second was an upscale residential roof top garden in a suburb of Budapest.


Exploring Green Roofs In Hungary

Well, many rooftops here in Budapest are green.  This week my friend and associate, Gabor, from Diadem USA, took me on a tour of a new green roof using the Diadem Green roof svstem. This new city green roof was in the process of being installed so we were able to see various levels of development. From installation of waterproof membranes, to drain mats and soil installation, all components were there to see.

However, in Europe, the process of converting ugly, hot roof surfaces into cool, beautiful, rainwater-filtering growing space, has been popular and very widespread for quite a long time. European roof systems are tried-and-true examples of installation and maintenance methods which work over the long term.
